I can't help but think he's listened to Cziffra's performance of this because he replicates the power in that recording remarkably. Amazing.

Understanding that I most likely could not perform this piece better than him or even close, I am currently learning to play it and because of that, perhaps it is more obvious to me than to others that this is not a perfect performance. The mistakes start early, and they are numerous. They are small enough that you wouldn't notice them without careful scrutiny of the score, which I have already done. He performed the piece well, and it's just very sad to imagine that he probably got many points docked for his imperfect performance.

As I go through the first stage, I keep thinking, "Ah, this is the best rendition of this piece I've ever heard!" and revising my opinion of the previous times I've heard this piece in the competition. I wonder if the judges have the same sort of conflicts.

Amazing pianist! He masters the piano well! Amazing! I bet it takes YEARS to master this piece. Some people don't understand that piano is hard and it feels bad when people point out the slightest unidentifiable mistakes. Amazing piece!
