My 2008 owners manual said to use a small amount of grease to hold the spring.

Another good thing to do is measure how much oil you get back, this gives you a good indication on how much oil you are burning ( if no leaks are present) over a period of miles/Kms which in turn gives you a good idea of you engine condition before waiting to see white/blue smoke come from the exhaust. A bit over the top I know but you have to get rid of the oil at some point so why not measure it.
Like the tip for moving the kick start to get that extra old oil out.

Put grass..a little bit. It will hold.. u better clean that glue...

Just tip the bike over for a sec to put the spring and filter in.
