Carrying $1 Million in Cash Is Easier Than You'd Think

Larry Summers proposed eliminating high denomination currency to help curb illegal cash transfers. Bloomberg looks at how this would impact a $1 million handoff.

I work as an apprentice in a swiss bank, and one day a customer came to transfer a million in cash to his bank account and it was just like two stacks of 1k bills (a dollar is about the same as a swiss franc) so it is quite convinient to have that bill.

My home country of Canada actually has a weird problem like this. We formerly had $1000 bills, which were retired in 2000 at the request of the RCMP because they were allegedly mostly used by organized crime. Around a million notes are still out there, mostly still used by organized crime. They’re still able to be deposited at banks, but doing so would likely instantly raise red flags, so effectively they just bounce around in the criminal underworld as payments back and forth rather than actually serving as currency that can really be spent.

When I was a kid the whole class went to visit a bank once and everyone got to hold a million swiss francs (1000x1000.-) in the hand. Sadly the pack was vacuumed... ;)

In Singapore we have a $10, 000 note which is roughly $7, 500 USD. If you really wanted to, you could carry a million dollars in your pocket.
