Select background often bleeds into the subject for me. I then use subtract subject and it usually does a great job of properly selecting the background without affecting the subject. Good video.

Matt, this is a big Duh' for me. I've been painfully trying to remove subject masks for bird feathers especially with a brush. This makes so much more sense . Thanks again.

Great tip Matt. You obviously do your homework. I really like this video because I encounter this problem often but had no good possible solution. Thanks, Dale

Very interesting! Thanks. I often select sky but then my palm trees look a bit frayed. I think using these tips I can clean things up!

Great video, Matt. Thanks for providing this insight, which will make me think twice on how I can do proper masking in LR and not immediately go to PS!

Thanks Matt for a great insight into variations in techniques that most of us don't often think of trying. 👍👍

Great video. I discovered this a few months back and use remove background on almost every wildlife image I edit now. Adobe can’t get between bird feathers well at all!!! Plus if your doing an extreme lift of exposure it leaves halos without the background removal of the mask.

Great session Matt. As is your nature, your effective technique of underscoring the learning point by using clear examples is excellent. My challenge is youth hockey and trying to get the details to separate from the ice surface. So I’ll have some fun trying the technique of subtracting ‘background’ to get crisper edges(not a lot of sky inside the rink 🙂) Here’s a challenge for you. How to keep the motion blur of a helicopter rotor blade against the sky while keeping the integrity of the overall photo.? Stay well

I didn't expect to be surprised, because it does make sense to me that they aren't exactly the same...
But I can't quite understand why they are the same when compared directly at the start of the video and then they are not completely the same when subtracted 😅

Quick question Matt ??
The photo of the Driftwood Tree... I know you live near Tampa... Is this a location near Jacksonville, or maybe somewhere else.... If so, do you mind sharing? TIA
