I have old cast iron cooking and bakeware that is heavily rusted. I have soaked it in pure white vinegar and sometimes pure coca cola as well, for more than a day and scrubbed with steel wool, scour pads etc. yet the rust still remains. The vinegar seems to work slightly in removing the rust yet it doesn't clean the rust as much as everyone seems to claim. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions? I'm beyond frustrated.

Would this method work to remove rust from a cast iron toy train?

1) this is not easy and simple. evaporust should work much better and need way less effort.
2) Seasoning is best done with a LOW smoke point oil and the best for that is flax seed oil (225f)
