Dr Gail Bradbook, the co-founder of Extinction Rebellion talks about the right to rebel and the need to do have rebellious farmers at Fir Farm 2019.

In April, we achieved our first demand, Tell The Truth, and the UK Government declared a Climate Emergency. We have two more demands we are rebelling for:

Act Now
Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.

Beyond Politics
Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.

I am a US regenerative farmer. I am advocating paying farmers to grow organic and charging farmers to use chemicals. Replanting hedgerows into fruit nut and nitrogen fixing trees and bushes and fields must be no more than 50 acres surrounded by hedgerows.

How can you support animal ag when it causes significant environmental damage??

Thank you from the US. I am delighted to see such vigorous action taking place. It will come from us, we can't wait for government to put this at the top of their priorities.

Thank you, appreciate the efforts of all those that bring awareness, such as Gail, my solutions were and still are that i moved in the country-side a few years ago and covered a couple of acres of land with 1500 various types of trees so far(entire area is deforested and overgrazed by the nearby animal farms), encouraging friends to do the same, rent or buy degraded lands and plant. Xx

Bradbook is totally misguided in discrediting animal rights. She's got the issue confused, not the 'animal rights lobby.' Exploiting animals for meat, milk, and other by-products is inherently environmentally destructive, no matter how you slice it. The only sustainable alternative to the current approach to food production is small-scale plant-based agriculture. As long as people continue eating animals (and the numbers keep growing), vast swathes of land will be destroyed for grazing, fossil fuels will be consumed, harmful gases such as methane will be released into the atmosphere, and waterways will be polluted. Protein will be inefficiently distributed (with the poor in the southern hemisphere most severely disadvantaged) and the toxic ideology of human supremacy - which is partially responsible for hurling us headlong into this climate catastrophe - will continue to contaminate the species and lead to yet more otherwise avoidable destruction, suffering, and disaster.

Wow - I thought from some of the comments here that Gail's words about Animal rights lobby would be uncharacteristically harsh. I did not see that at all. She was simply saying that there are 2 issues: animal rights and welfare, and the impact of livestock farming on the environment, and that it's better not to mix the 2 up. Why is that such a terrible betrayal?

This is a new kind of revolution! One that is not fought, it is given, given to the needs of the people, I hope to be part of it! Thank you, thank you thank you, to those who have started it!

Love the XR F-bomb.
To talk to people working with the land, you need to bring the conversation down to Earth!...

So far, the drop in food production has been quite linear. It might not remain that way as severe droughts or floodings cut drastically yields with losses which can be far higher than 10 to 15% in one single growing season.

Long live the evolution! We need the farmers almost as much as we need the working class to get on board now :)

Dr. Bradbrook, surely you could have made your case without bad mouthing us animal rights folks. Have you seen the figures about the detriment of animal agriculture? Seems to me you could stand to follow your own advice about critical thinking. Very disappointed hearing this pitch continuing to normalize and condone mass consumption of animals and deforestation.

Thank you. I hope you accept Dr. Sailesh Rao challenge to a debate about regenerative farming and climate change. I think it would be wonderful the share the love and the the truth of global warming.

This can only be achieved with resource based economy based on science engineering and technology not by the capitalist economy system which is the cause of the problem
