I'm a 65 year old ungifted white woman, but I really love this song, it takes me back to a simpler time in my life.

Being a teenager in the late 60’s this music was great/

One of the best reggae songs ever. I'm white and I love it.

I love this version, though am reminded of how personal this song was for Nina Simone. She was brilliant, but the music industry didn't want a dark skinned, politically active woman to get any recognition. Her youth must have been very hard--but she wrote this song to give courage to the next generation.

I love this song which came out during a time of oppression for so many black people. It is a song of hope.💛💚💙🧡❤

From my friend Marcus Downbeat: Elton John does Bob and Marcia: Back in the day session musicians would be hired to record cover versions of hit pop songs for release on budget priced LPs called Hot Hits or Top of the Pops released on cheap labels like hallmark. One now-famous musician who was employed in this role was Elton John, who recorded many of these cover versions before he became famous. One such cover was this version of Bob and Marcia's take on Young Gifted and Black (with female vocalist Clare Torry in the Marcia role)
Some bright spark joker has decided to edit Elton John's cover onto footage of Bob and Marcia singing the song at the 1970 Reggae Festival at Wembley Arena.
Plenty of people have been fooled by this mash up, illustrating both how good Elton's cover version is, and also how easy it is to fool some of the people some of the time - this has had over 2 million views!
This is Elton John - don't be fooled.

I'm young, gifted, and black, and I'm glad songs like this exist to remind myself and countless others

I`m a 50 year old man living in Perth W.A, born and bred in Nottingham UK. This track reminds me of friends of West Indian/Jamaican families who i went to school with in the 70`s. It also reminds me of nights at the local Goose Fair where tracks like this echoed around the fair ground along with screams from people having a great time. Great memories.

I am neither young gifted or black but this song and it's meaning rings loud. If you are black, white or even green listen and enjoy the wonderful feeling it evokes.

Always loved Marcia Griffiths, I'm seventy now. Still do. Remember quite clearly when I heard this song first

As a very young teenager back then I loved this song and as a bonus I was struck by how attractive Marcia was.
