There is certainly anecdotal evidence pointing to the economic effects of lockdown persisting and deepening. The next wave of surveys will be telling. The fall in employment has almost entirely been outside of the public (+SOE+municipality) sector.
If the proposal is to increase welfare payments, national belt tightening will need to be c30%, and with 60% being wage bill, then the wage will may have to fall between 30% and 50%. When this means headcount in the public sector, this will compound the problem.

Why though? The poorest of the poor vote in the ANC- the ANC demonstrably impoverishes the population of south africa- why should the middle class bear the brunt of the poor decisions made by the voting populace?
