Portrait Painting Tip: Work Into a Layer of Oil

This portrait painting was a two hour sketch from life. Tip: Working into a thin layer of linseed oil can help keep your painting expressive and soft. The paint does move around a little! But it means that your entire sketch is painted wet-into-wet from the beginning, and edge softening is much easier.
