Merhaba from Istanbul! We’re writing this from our tiny rental apartment on the backstreets of Taksim. It’s 5pm, and the last rays of sun are shining through the line-drying clothes hanging above, down to the group of children playing football in the street.

Istanbul has been on our bucket list for as long as we can remember, and (scams aside) it has surpassed our expectations. We hope you enjoy this first silly vlog from Turkiye - where we get shown around Sultanahmet by an enthusiastic local scammer, pay waaay too much for a box of turkish delights, learn about Islam from a volunteer at the Blue Mosque, and yap while eating tavuklu pilav (chicken rice) - an Istanbul street food staple.

We’ll be back next week with our second Istanbul vlog (think vintage shops, bomb food, and a side quest to the asian side of Istanbul!) PLEASE SUBSCRIBE + share with your friends to support us!

see y’all next week

tbh I have been snacking on these Turkish delights all week and they aren’t half bad 😂

As a Turk, I am very sorry. The man who forced you to buy Turkish delight, unfortunately, scammed you—both in terms of price and taste. What you ate was not real Turkish delight. I wish you could try better Turkish delight and baklava. But you are very sweet, and as someone from Istanbul, I really enjoyed watching your vlog.

Hello, as a Turkish so sorry to hear you got scammed. These people exists, sorry. About the bagel (simit) if you buy it from a coster it will be dry and tasteless and probably made two days ago. If you buy a bagel from a good bakery, bagel will be so delicious and so satisfying to eat for breakfast. I recommend you to buy it early hours in a day and from a bakery.

If you see a random person on the street in a foreign country being overly friendly to you out of the blue, you can probably guess that they are a scammer. For example, the taxi driver who scammed me in Georgia was the friendliest person I saw in the country during the whole vacation.

baklava is actually from the east of Turkey its originally from Gaziantep and it has various types.. People mostly like the Gaziantep Baklava (the original one with pistachios but a little bit more expensive) but also Cold Baklava is now becoming popular and i think its way better than the original one, it has milk and chocolate in it rather than sherbet

Didn't you ask for the price before buying? 🤭

you can def pay a tourist tax in Istanbul, v common…the goods are usually good but that’s still way overpriced. Never believe a “discount” lol

Bro, I’m not even Türkish and I paid around £15 for the amount you got in high quality. I could’ve got the lower quality stuff even cheaper… I didn’t even try that hard to bargain.

I wish this video go viral and those guys will penalize what they did or at least they can find a real job rather than scamming people!

I would say from my experience around 20$ or less would be acceptable, I would even say 20$ is on the expensive side, just an advise for future deals, ( always taste first 👍) they shouldn't say no, if they say no go try another place
