*Chappers to his wife* "but babe this isnt my 163rd guitar! this is for Theo when he grows up"
"why dont you just get him that guitar when he is old enough to play a full sized guitar"
"dont question my methods"

Please also give him a Miku Pedal, so he can enjoy the true guitar experience

that is the best way to justify an impulse guitar buy, to the wife.

I really get jealous of people like your son when i have no musicians in my family or relatives. How awesome would it be to learn guitar as a young kid with your dad

I like how you've twisted the prs purchase to a gift for your son to justify keeping it despite not being fond of the colour. Smoothly executed Chappers!

Anecdote about buying guitars for children.

My two kids have been exposed (subjected) to me playing guitar their entire lives. When my boy turned six, I bought him a wee, cheap guitarlele - short scale guitar with a uke sized body. It's on the border between musical instrument and toy, but it can be left in the hands of an active child without me worrying about it. After the initial excitement, he showed very little interest in it for almost a year (I was the only one who would ever play it). But then, one day, the singer of a band called Skippinish came to their school as his class was singing a translation of his song "Walking on the waves" (my kids go to a Gaelic school and despite Skippinish being a bilingual band, they were doing one of their English songs in Gaelic).

So, my boy thought this guy was the coolest thing since sliced bread and grabbed his guitar as soon as he got home that day. I was a tiny bit indignant - some other bastard was cooler in my kid's eyes than I was - but mostly I was just super pleased that he was showing an interest.

A year later (he's now coming up for eight), he bloody loves rock music thanks to Rival Sons (to whom I shall forever be indebted to as they were the gateway drug to Rock and Roll for both my kids) and Black Sabbath - the only thing his fingers are currently able to play on a fretboard is Iron Man. However, he's also picked up playing drums, so my boy and I can have a jam and that is honestly one of the most amazing things you can experience as a semi-musical parent of young children.

My daughter's coming up for that age too now, so I'll maybe get to start this process again and I'm really looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

I just bought my 11 year old his first guitar. A 2nd hand Yamaha Pacifica that I got for £30 then cleaned up, repaired it and set it up. Plays and sounds great and he's really appreciative. If he keeps it up then he can save for something better

Please let me know if you plan on having more kids. Adopt, don't shop.

Completely unrelated, I'm up for adoption.

I've done what you're doing for your kid. I think it's amazing to want to share what you love with your children. I say a lot shite stuff to you Rob, about guitars and stuff, but you're clearly a good, kind hearted person and I can get on board with that. I hope your son one day realizes he's blessed to have a dad like you.

Dear Rob, I turned 17 yesterday (june 29th) and I can guarantee you that you will not even notice how fast time flies by. My father bought me a 1984 epiphone explorer ex when i was born and yesterday i played it for the first time. It is the most wonderful gift one can make his son if he is raised in a musical world. Enjoy the remaining 18 years of that guitar!

Gotta say, I'm glad that even as the owner of a guitar company, you still advise people to break down the barrier between brands, and to just enjoy the world of guitars as whole. You have my respect

Absolutely gorgeous looking and sounding guitar. That will be the best gift he's ever received. Every time he looks at it and hears it play, he'll think of you hopefully his whole life.

Rob your son's like a year old? You have like 10 or 20 guitars and you have a damn guitar company. You're an adult, if you want to get yourself a new guitar just get yourself a new guitar.
