No matter how much talent you have, there's no replacement for spending years doing, succeeding, and failing. Congratulations on achieving this wisdom at such a young age!

This is SOOO helpful! I don't really comment on videos that often anymore but I just wanted to make sure to leave a comment behind to let you know that you helped out a musician out here in the Philippines. <3 More of this, please! Much love from the PH!

Good talk. My takeaway as somebody with anxiety and perfectionism is that you can learn by trying new things and it doesn't always have to be about the immediate project.

"maybe there's a third phase, I'm not there yet"-JP Bouvet. I dig this guy.

Very interesting to hear about your history, approach, and mindset. I lost a whole bunch of years for many reasons, but hearing this mature and comprehensive perspective really gives this late bloomer here a lot of interesting & challenging things to think about. ❤

It was me 🙋🏾‍♀️. I needed to hear it. Thank you for this. I remember you from the Berklee sheds back in the day, full circle man I’m overwhelmed with how much this resonates with me right now in my life and music career. The depths of your works speak to the very nature and heart of a true visionary, artist, or dreamer. I’ve felt so alone in the pursuit of it all, it’s almost impossible to explain to anyone, so to hear you say this for me was certainly divine timing. Thank you for the inspiration over the years, 🙏🏾🩵🥁

Stumbled upon this video because I couldn‘t sleep. In a way you missed a skill you got which I find very important and were I struggle. You focused on the „yes, and…“ but you also managed the „no“ or better „letting go“. Even though you spent a lot of time learning/doing something you figured „that‘s not it.“ this means letting go of an idea of a version of yourself where you’d love that task or are good at it. Clinging onto something (a project or whatever) can really eat up your potential.

I really like this concept JP, it reminds me to stay proactive within my pursuit of music :)

Hi JP,
Thanks for your wise words.
I'm in a medical device startup and happen to be an amateur jazz drummer as well. Basically all you said works in my professional domain as well. Thanks for sharing your reflection.

This was great and resonated with me a lot. I’m 31 now, and my 20s were also spent “doing” and being a yes man. Now, like you, I’m more of a NO man and am diving deep and narrowing my focus (also, like you, I’m working on growing my online education community)

Anyway, I’m now a subscriber and appreciate this video a lot. You’ve inspired me to make similar content for my students.

Take care and good luck to you!
Lee

I came across the GC drum off solo riding in a van back in 2019, my first real US tour up and down the East Coast with my band friends for a 5 weeks, wide eyed and bushy tailed. I remember watching these early Do-ism vlogs of yours and so much resonated with who I was then. Fast forward 6 years later - with successes and failures under my belt both big and small - and this go deeper refinement message resonates with who I am now. So so grateful that I’m part of this community you’ve thoughtfully organized.
