Mind you, he declined directing Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi because "he didn't want to direct any sci-fi" and after telling George Lucas this, he went home and started working on Dune straight away 🤣

I loved this movie!! It’s based on one of my favorite books of all time. It has a great look, great cast, great soundtrack. True it does go a little off the rail in the second half. But honestly 14 year old me loved it then as does 53 year old me now.

There are good things about this movie, the sets, the costumes, the music, the dream sequences are nice.. but is all exposition, constant exposition. Many characters big and small act in strange ways…in service of exposition. I still like it though, for all its faults.
