Copyright didn’t exist back then, so everyone would try and copy what was popular at the time, and it usually wasn’t at all frowned upon. People in fact enjoyed going to see each troop’s interpretation of similar events.

I really wish historians had preserved more plays other than Shakespeare’s. It’s hard to believe that Shakespeare is as incredible of a writer as we’re told if we don’t get to see what else was out at the time, especially when much of his work is derived from that unpreserved work.
