A mandatory drug test for police departments in California is a life saving idea.

Dejon packet wasn't a substance abuser and definitely was not a fentanyl user -( opioid user for that matter.) For Captain Mata to call him a substance abuser is a disgrace.
So Officer Packer was amongst fellow officers working and building friendships and not one officer suspected drug use of a drug user? Doesn't make sense.. Remember these are police officers who recognize the symptoms, body language, pupil dilation of a person under the influence of a substance. The size of only 2 grains of salt is enough fentanyl to kill an individual. The kind words that came after his death shortly lived and replaced with these negative accusations is ignorance on Captain Mata part for not being educated on the lead killer and epidemic today.
Officer Dejon Packer Honor roll student of SJSU, Highest Rank in Police Academy, and don't forget playing football in Highschool, SJCC and SJSU - what drug addict could possibly succeed these accomplishments. - very few to none.
Officer Dejon Packer considered the first scandal of the SJPD. - A slap to Dejon and his family's face .
However, what is kept in the dark always comes to light:

The "scandals' that came to follow the many officers DUI, the officer who exposed his self sexually to a mother and daughter and now the grandma that is head of the police association pushing pharmacuticals for the past 8 years and don't forget who had opioids delivered to Alabama that killed the individual.

This lady even using her work computer to complete illegal activities. This is a reflection of a serious and issue with the police force of San Jose.
And how did this fentanyl really get into the system of Officer Dejon Packer?

Also, when an individual dies of fentanyl overdose from ingestion, touching it, close proximity which can also be deadly why was no other individual exposed to this at hi time of death? Ranging from Ambulance, SJPD, Milpitas Police, family and friends etc etc..

Dejon Packer had many accomplishments and many goals he was working towards and was not a drug user.

“Promising”???This kid had such little time on the job that you cannot describe him as promising. You don’t start doing drugstore overnight. This is something that this kid was already doing.

i assume they have strong evidence that he knowing and willfully took an illegal substance which unknowingly contained fentanyl, otherwise they wouldn’t have publicly called him a substance abuser since they can sued for defamation

A liberal Californian once told me that if you just legalize all drugs the profits go away and all the problems go away too. Yeah, right…..

People here failing to realize that there are TONS of functioning heroin addicts (most of which are in the upper/elite classes)... Wouldn't be surprised if this officer was one of them and just happened to have come across a laced batch. Insane to me that he wouldn't test his drugs though. RIP regardless to a very young man.

Drug addicts are often very successful and promising. Many are doctors, lawyers, and police officers.
