Strong Gale Blows Truck Over in Xinjiang

Gale-force wind blew a truck over in the city of Turpan in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Sunday afternoon.

The truck was heading for Xinjing's capital city Urumqi from Turpan but was blown over to its side by high winds at about 18:00 on Sunday, stranding the driver in the cabin.

Traffic police soon reached the site amidst the continued gusts of wind and helped the driver climb out of the cabin. The driver was then escorted by one of the officers into the squad car and transported to safety.

The 30-mile section of road between Turpan and Urumqi is known for its windy weather.

High winds has been battering that area since Saturday and worsened when sand-dust began blowing Sunday afternoon.

For safety, local traffic police have taken measures including more traffic control and diversion of roads as well as clearing way for vehicles.

Roads were not the only form of transportation affected by gale, a train was also stranded at Turpan railway station because of the bad weather around 17:00 on Sunday. But it resumed operation at 19:30 after the wind lessened.
