I’m wheelchair user that surfs… sooo why don’t I bodyboard? Bodyboarders wear swim fins to use their legs to create propulsion and control while balancing on a small board that doesn’t have a lot of buoyancy… which I can’t do independently. Although I can’t body board, the international surfing association and USA surfing recognize para surfing as a sport! There are different classifications within para surfing for different disabilities, currently I am training as a prone 1 (laying down) para surfer. This means my legs can hang out on my board while my core and upper body do all of the work. When I compete in my division at competitions I will need to paddle out to the lineup on my own, select and paddle into my own waves independently, surf the wave, and paddle back out to catch another wave without any help! Follow to learn more & join my journey as a para surfer!! 🤙🏻✨🌊♿️🌺

I heard "I'm a wheelchair user that serves" the first time watching and I did not question it because also true.

I’m so used to watching blind surfer Pete that I’m like “ah yes a wheel chair user, the most normal type of blind” and I was confused with why you couldn’t body board cause I couldn’t see how the rules don’t apply 😆 😭

Looking up bodyboarding doesn’t define it. I mostly surf but when I bodyboard I only paddle with my arms into and under waves and I don’t wear fins either

You could body board but you choose not to. I hope you only compete with other para surfers cause you’re not really surfing. Honestly if it makes you happy keep at it but you’re doing a glorified version of body boarding on a surf board. Even with your disability you could bodyboard easily for good PT and eventually try to actually surf, but if you never recover try to improve off this at the least.
