The dawn of personal computing over the course of the 20th century was followed in parallel by the advent of gaming. Personal computers and video games have always been the perfect match. But if you’ve grown up anytime in the last two decades, gaming’s early origins may surprise you. PCs weren’t always the juggernauts in comparison to their console counterparts. The entire gaming industry, and technology as a whole, was a lot simpler and a lot murkier.

Today, we’re going to take a look at the evolution of PC gaming. And before anyone starts typing out what we’ve missed, know this is a highlight reel: We’re going to be talking about the big picture. Starting with where it all began we’ll make our way to what PC gaming looks like right now and we’ll finish off with where we think PC gaming is headed. We’re going to be talking about games from the era of the Atari 2600 all the way up to the PlayStation 5 (and maybe even PlayStation 6), so strap in and enjoy the ride!

My father used to work at 3DFX when they were still in business and it is honestly sad that the company doesn't get the recognition it deserves. When they lost to competing with Nvidia, it was because they didn't release their products in time. The voodoo 5 was capable of many cool things, including motion blur and depth of field without tremendous lag for the first ever time thanks to several buffers that it had for post processing. When Nvidia won the competition, they bought 3DFX and acquired a lot of their technologies. Any games in the early 2000s with depth of field, motion blur, sun rays, advanced reflection mapping that looks almost real on race car models, etc.... IT WAS THANKS TO 3DFX, NOT NVIDIA.

Basically PC gaming goals should to just make it more affordable for better stuff, we have reached a point where graphics really can't go much further

actually I find it curious to note that VIDEOGAMES WERE BORN ON PC'S, the first game in history was made on a pc for a pc, and to test the capabilities of a pc, that is the games were not born on a machine dedicated to them, but on pc's and for pc's, so the tradition of pc games are directly linked to the origin of video games themselves, and that makes pc's and video games indistinguishable in their history and tradition

Packing more power in the chips is good and all but without significant changes in cooling recently there will be a point where thermals will be the biggest problem.

I remember getting a Commodore Amiga instead of a PC because it was better for gaming.
Having to spend 10 minutes in swapping 5 different floppy disks just to load a new level which then just crashed anyway wasn't very convincing though.

My friend actually edited for the gamer, and he's told me a few things about what it was like working with them, when Zero calls them corporate he's completely right, the gamer is actually owned by screen rant, who owns a number of low quality, corporate, uninspired 10 style channels, such as the binger, the richest, the things ECT. (great names huh?)

The scriptwriters have to pitch ideas for videos that they want to make for subjects they are passionate about, but they're pretty much always turned down and given these corporate clickbaity videos on subjects they don't know or are not passionate about.

Now you would think the writers would put in the effort to do the research and make the video as well as they can right? well these types of channels only hire people on a freelance basis, this is done so that they don't have to pay a consistent wage and can get away with underpaying their staff. Instead of being paid for the hours they put in, they get paid on the basis of how many scripts they finish, and from what my friend has told me, they don't pay that well either.

This just this corporate structure creates a culture of just blazing through as much work as you can as quick as you can. to put it briefly QUANTITY over quality.

The voice-overs are freelance too, they aren't required to do any research, or know anything about games in general as long as they have a good voice and "read script good" then that's all the gamer asks of them. they're just grinding through as many scripts as they can.

It's the same for editors too, you don't have to know or understand what the games really about you just need grind through as many videos as you can to put food on the table.

these channels just pump out this Junkfood clickbaity content because it shows up in the sidebar and people end up clicking on it and watching long enough to make some revenue. They don't value quality in the slightest, they just want to produce as much as they can and quickly and cheaply as they can.

sorry for the essay. I hope this was interesting for anyone who read it. as an editor myself, I hate seeing these companies underpay their staff and actively choosing to make low-quality content

I have heard of other grass cards running in the price range of four to five thousand dollars granted they're not gaming cards and you're looking at some processors costing upward of $4, 000. Which would be severe enthusiast grade
