COROS Dura GPS Cycling Computer is NOT READY!

Even before launching the Coros DURA had already been projected to "disrupt the market". The reality couldn't be further from the truth. "This isn't ready to launch" was one of the first things I gave as feedback after using this highly anticipated cycling GPS device. In this video I give a first-hand look at how the DURA really performs as delivered for review. Coros now have their work cut-out in getting this unit up to speed prior to shipping it in a few weeks.

Update: COROS is now holding the shipping of these units until September 15th 2024. Pre-orders will have an option provided to them to receive a unit as ordered as of July 15 or choose another alternative. No surprises whatsoever they’ve delayed this launch. The official reason is due to the DURA tabs breaking jn 3rd party mounts. Given the timelines and communication to date, I’m skeptical this is the full justification for the delay.

You're one of the rare guys who gives his honest opinion. You are not just an extension of brand marketing but a real tester and for that: thank you.

The bald wizard has spoken. Mad respect for this video. Gotta call these brands out on their shenanigans. Looks like it has potential though, hope they can fix it with updates. :)

I've been using their multi-sport watch COROS Pace 2 for two years now, and I can only say that they are a great company that takes care of their products with updates that not only fix issues but also upgrade the unit to the max of its hardware capabilities. For instance, the Pace 2 did not offer any maps or gpx routing at all when I purchased it. It was to be expected given the price range it competes with. When they released their Pace 3 with gpx routing, they rolled out an update for the Pace 2 to also support this, which is a massive upgrade. I can now upload gpx routes and navigate with my watch without having to buy a new one. Many other companies wouldn't have upgraded this product and would have forced the consumer to buy their new Pace 3 for such feature. To me, that is a policy that needs to be supported, and I'm sure they will fix all these bugs and catch up with the competition through updates and upgrades!

Hey Shane, thanks for giving your viewers a first look at COROS DURA! When DURA ships to customers on July 15, we will have updated the firmware from the early beta demonstrated in this video to a new version that addresses many of the issues you pointed out, resulting in a significantly improved rider experience.

As we have done with our watches in the past, we will continue to improve DURA via updates for years to come. Thank you again for discussing COROS and we look forward to sharing more updates with you soon!

Wtf were they thinking sending this to Shane Miller? Did they think they were going to escape anything short of a full colonoscopy of their hardware, software, and features?

I am genuinely at a loss why they would release such a half-baked unit to reviewers. But then I am reminded of Garmin and how it takes them at least a year to iron out the many bugs riddling their software. Alas, Garmin gets away with it, because they're Garmin. When you hope to compete with that behemoth, your units and software must be beyond reproach. Thanks mate, your unbiased reviews are always a breath of fresh air. Can't imagine where we'd be without you (and DCR, mad props to him, too).

With the hype I get in my insta feed this is one of those nice occasions to check which influencers to better not trust. Thanks for the honest review.

At first glance, the large rotary knob looks a bit strange. But why not?! Interesting concept, but there will probably be (have to be) a few more firmware updates. The 'not finished yet' thing is an announcement, but you didn't make it without reason.

Nevertheless, it's nice that more companies are trying their hand at this difficult bike computer segment. There were a few companies that wanted to enter the market and then disappeared just as quickly, but the manufacturers that have consistently done their thing seem to be successful.

For us users, that's only an advantage. Thanks for the review, as always very insightful and informative, real reviews are worth a lot 👍

As an audax rider the advertised battery life did stir my attention. But as a career device tester I really appreciate the level of detail you go into in these reviews. Perhaps they will get the core functionality working soonish. But why are they pushing this launch date?!

@GPLama - have you done a full review of the IGP Sports ICS800 unit yet, that you shared an Unpacking video of a few weeks ago?

I've got to say I'm quite pleased with the Dura. Keep in context that this is my first bike computer so I have nothing to compare it to. Turn by turn works well now and reroute also works well. Though I generally don't like using turn by turn as I just like following a line on the map. Seeing the screen is easy with my 63 yo eyes. Importing Gpx routes works great from Ride with GPS. The battery life is ridiculously good. On a 5 hour ride in full sun I used 6.3% battery and solar charged 6% for a net use of 0.3% in 5 hours. Even without solar like when riding in trees, which is also gps system demanding, it uses like 2% per hour. The Dura works perfectly with my Garmin Varia.

My only annoyance is distance remaining when following a route is only on the main map page. It's odd because there is comprehensive configuration options for other data fields. I submitted a feature request to coros.
Customer service has been very responsive and it seems like Coros is all in on bike computers. I'm very happy for $250.

Competition much appreciated and needed. Also I'm sure some ultra competitors will appreciate the USP. But you remember that room of experiments Ripley finds in Alien Resurrection? .... if this design could talk, that's what it would say. Ripley killed them all (with fire).

On the upper side, Coros has a history of correcting issues and improving the product through firmware, I have a Pace2 watch which is a few years old and it's still getting new features through fw - even after the Pace3 model was released. So let's hope those issues are addressed fast and improved, but of course it's not a good image to release a product like that, which leaves an impression of not been properly tested.

Spot-on, right out of the gate. I have a Coros sport watch (Pacer 2). Their algorithms/formulas for athlete metrics have a clear bias towards *running*. I use a Wahoo unit for cycling and only wear the Coros watch to hike, swim or run.

Funny that I was looking for an update to a Whaoo product and magically you had one ready for the Garmin 1050. nice work. seems like they are always brining out new updated stuff

Based on the current screen lag with very little functionality, I can't imagine how big of a slog it's going to be once they enable all of the 'basic' functionality that is missing.

I wonder if that's another company with 'Shane Miller' on the shitllist. Stuff 'em. I come here first for the honest and unbiased viewpoints. Keep going Lama

I'll keep my Wahoo Element Bolt, thank you very much. As much as near daily updates drive me bonkers, it has always been extremely reliable and does every very well.

Also, I realize its winter in Australia right now, but how cold is it? You are bundled up more than me when I do late fall/early winter fat bike rides.
