'Show me, tell me': tell me questions 2024: official DVSA guide

Official DVSA guide to the driving test ‘tell me’ questions (where you explain how you’d carry out a safety task) at the start of your test. You’ll do this before you start driving.

Find the car's recommended tyre pressures and check each tyre (0:36)
Make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted (0:56)
Check the tyres have enough tread depth and are safe (1:15)
Check the headlights and tail lights work (1:32)
Spot a problem with your anti-lock braking system (1:47)
Check the indicators work (1:57)
Check the brake lights work (2:10)
Check the power steering works before starting a journey (2:21)
Switch on the rear fog lights (2:35)
Switch your headlights from dipped to main beam (2:57)
Check the engine has enough oil (3:14)
Check the engine has enough coolant (3:37)
Check you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid (3:59)

Isn't it bad to steer while the car isn't moving? Because you can wear out the tyres and steering mechanism?

Why would the brakes feel spongy or slack? Is it spongy if there's trapped air in the system and slack if brakes are worn?

Also, for the under bonnet checks: oil, screen wash and brake fluid can be checked even when the engine is warm?
