Hi Pete (and others). Feel free to have a laugh at my expense ... I too had a play with the 1496 a couple of weeks ago (not then knowing of your experiments). I took my inspiration from SSDRA. I couldn't get it to work. I eventually realised the early 1496 device was in a 10pin metal can, and of course my 1496 has 14 pins. No more needs to be said. Laugh away as I did (after briefly weeping and self admonishing).

I have always liked the 1496, ever since the HW8 tin can days. I have a couple of receivers that use the DIL version. I was told that the NE602 internal circuit is the same as the 1496, but have never dug into that. Thanks for sharing Pete.

Thanks for sharing Pete. I am changing the LO on a direct conversion receiver I built years ago from a VXO to DDS using the si5351. Getting accustomed to Arduino and I2C, LCD drivers etc. A good use of the workbench.

Is there a reason you used a pnp amp instead of an npn? Just wanted to try it out? Or is there a more technical reason?
