Hytera PD985 DMR UHF Radio Review.

Pleasantly surprised by the Hytera PD985 UHF DMR handheld. The radio appears and feels very rugged, with a plethora of features including encryption (prohibited on HAM radio), DMR repeater on single frequency, GPS and Bluetooth among others. You will see it again on this channel! Surprising results and a little tour of the magnificent city of Antibes on the French Riviera, in the vicinity of Port Vauban.

Thank you for a great video. Excellent comments about group vs individual communications, as well as your observations about the utility of digital modes for enhanced security.

Thank you for the great review. That looks like a good quality radio with a lot of SHTF potential. I always appreciate your prepper perspective and focus.

I also enjoyed the mini tour. I don't travel to Europe so I like the virtual travel.

I have both Motorola XPR7550 and APX8000 portable radios and Hytera PD782 / 982 and 682 portable radios.
I definitely like the Motorola look and feel, but LOVE the Hytera FPP (field programmability).
I mostly use Hytera RD982 repeaters (approx 7) and have yet to have one fail.

Thanks for this video.

I skipped all the talk about DMR and went straight to looking at your city - very beautiful city !. DMR/DSTAR/SYSTEM FUSION etc etc does not interest me in the least. If I am going to be using the internet to talk to some other guy, then I would rather spend that time talking to my family. Maybe it's because I got hooked on radio in the early 80's with the magic of REAL RF. Anything that uses RF between both points - HF CW, SSB, even FT8, satellites, VHF and UHF simplex DX, 6 meters etc etc is what really interests me. Thanks for the tour of your city Gil.

Very interesting videos as always. I had a QSO of about 60km between the cities of Hjo and Jonkoping in Sweden I was surprised standing by the seaside in Hjo at one of the large lakes in Sweden, Vättern. DMR is another dimension of amateurradio. We also use a local DMR frekvense without repeater and it works well during my lunch walks when working from home. That is also a nice way to use ham radio. It have been quite a lot of QSo:s during theese lunch walks. 73 SA5GNO Gunnar

Hey Gil, since your English language video is 20% shorter than your French language video on the same topic, should I take that to mean that English is the more efficient language :-)

Great content as usual. I'm a HAM but love my dual band Anytone 878s..

Hi there great video, I am located in Ireland, and I do a small bit of prep, I was looking for something to keep communication between myself and my family also located in Ireland but 80miles away, I have no experience with radios at all, is this something you would recommend?

Hey, where did you happen to buy one? I can't seem to find one for purchase anywhere. Thanks in advance.

It would be very interesting to see the review of Belfone BF-TD930(MC-N) which has a similar feature set, including Single Frequency Repeater and something they call ah-hoc network. It would be interesting how 2-3 of these could maybe expand range for other radios in the network. These radios also seem to be dual-band.

Thank you for the good review and such a beautiful city landscape. I think for me though it not being dual band is the biggest reason I would not be interested in it. 73s
