“Unless something unforeseen happens” Wow such a truly remarkable athlete. RIP

I'm hoping Kipchoge and kiptum face off and together beat the 2 hr limit in a marathon. That would be insane to have both of them beat 2 hr.

It's stunning that Kipchoge's record is already broken. I remember when Kipchoge ran his old record of 2:01:39 in 2018. People said that would stand for many, many years. Well, it didn't. I think now Kiptum will break the 2 hour barrier in an "OFFICIAL" marathon. I think it will happen in 2024.

He'll be the first to run sub 2 hour marathon in a race.

Kiptum has been incredibly impressive in all three of his marathon wins: all very fast, all negative splits. What we have not seen from him yet is a warm weather marathon without pacers. I have little doubt Kiptum can run fast in such a race, which he will have to do for the OG in Paris next summer. I suspect his strategy will be to run whatever pace Kipchoge chooses to run for the first 30 km then either surge ahead or fall back. It could be a most interesting race. Time is on Kiptum’s side at age 23 as opposed to Kipchoge at age 38.

Massive fan of Kipchoge. But I think a new king has officially arrived. All the best to Kelvin Kiptum, I look forward to seeing what fireworks he can produce throughout his career.

Have never really been interested in distance running much as a competitive sport until I started watching your videos about the marathon. Now I'm hooked. Can't wait to see King Kipchoge when he goes up against Kiptum, those splits you put up would be such a fun race with King going out early and getting reeled in.

It would be very interesting to see what happens if Kipchoge and Kiptum face each other and Kipchoge runs a really fast 1:st half like his WR. Will Kiptum stay with him or will he have faith in the negative split and catching up later in the race? If Kiptum stays with Kipchoge, will his closing speed suffer due to him having to push that much harder earlier? I just hope they meet at the Olympics and that both of them are in really peak form. We never really got the Kipchoge vs Bekele battle due to Bekele's injuries. But hopefully Kipchoge has some gas left in the tank to really push Kiptum. Very exciting stuff!

I also think it’s important to note that Kiptum has now run all 3 of his sub 2:02s on courses other than Berlin

Bekele and kipchoge have the other 3 but all three of theirs have been on Berlin.

What it means is that kiptum hasn’t had the benefit of the fastest course to run on yet.

It’s also worth noting that kiptums 3 marathon average finish is sub 2:01:30
Vs Kipchoges first 3 average which is over 2:04:10 per marathon. Now you need to take that with a grain of salt as eliud didn’t have the advantage of super shoe and modern training tech that we have today. The point is that kelvin kiptum is off to the greatest start to a marathon career in history.

His coach says that he ran over 300km (190 miles) per week to prep for Chicago. His coach is also worried that this could lead to injury or a short career. Only time will tell
