I like the way you refer to whole tree trunks as "logs" LOL

I am in Wisconsin and if you look at our state via a satellite map. You can see the Menominee Reservation from space. it shows how well managed forests can produce for generations.

Checked it out. Sustainability is important in forestry. Here is South Carolina, we have more forestland and timber than we've ever recorded. Our records go back into the 1930's. The South has a history of non-sustainable agriculture, so reforestation on worn-out ag land was a way to heal the land.

So is the timber owned by someone other than the owners of the saw mills? Does India pay more than a local saw mill for logs? Around here a lot of the paper mills own most of the timber they harvest.

That's what they are commonly referred to after harvested....at least here in the industry.

Yes, they have it down to a science. I'll have to make a video of a harvesting operation.

Lumber is exported also, but as lumber prices rise faster than log prices, there is more demand for the logs.

Most of the timberland is owned by private individuals instead of mills. The large forestry companies sold off their land over the past decade. The buyer for the logs being exported has to pay a competitive price or else they wouldn't outbid others.

They send over the entire log, why not process it into lumber prior to shipping it over seas?

What condition were the logs in on arrival. If they had just been felled about 30% moisture content? Dry out unevenly on way? Split on arrival? Was customer happy? What if any paperwork was necessary ie for customs into India? Many thanks!! Arthur
