I don't know why companies debut a group similar to one they already have, it just causes unnecessary hate to the members of the group because they get compared to their seniors

A couple of weeks ago i literally saw a video titled something like “do idols need to be able to sing?” and i was like…yes…😭i mean…are we really lowering our standards so much that we need to ask ourselves such a question? Are we stanning idols that sing and dance or are we stanning dolls that just need to look pretty? At this point what are y’all even stanning Sakura for if you don’t care about her sounding bad and always lip syncing?

Like when tf did we even go from 4th to 5th???? It felt so random

Oh you ate with the “5th gen doesn’t exist” opinion… I refuse to acknowledged the most obviously fabricated move by marketing strategy to happen in this industry,

I don't think assigning groups to a certain generation makes sense anymore. When the Big 3 dominated and only had a few groups at a time, it made sense. But times have changed

About the 5th gen thing, i agree. Let’s just look at this whole newjeans/illit comparison: they have such similar concept, sound and vibe, yet i’m supposed to believe they belong to two different generations? And for groups like Riize and Boynextdoor i really don’t see what makes them so different. Boygroups like txt, cravity and nct dream have been doing that type of concept for years 😭

I don't think the disappointment with baby monster's debut was necessarily because people expected too much from it, but rather because it was the blackpink formula. I think the song is fun and the girls did fine, but it's really frustrating that YG gave them a bp reject. It literally samples money how lazy can they get?

OMG ... thank you very much for your comment on Illit and NJ sounding exactly the same. I have been bashed anytime I brought this up and so happy that somebody feels like I do. Also have to agree with the vocal standard. It is such a shame that so many ppl just dont care about vocals anymore. If this continues, you going to have AI singing while idols dance

I know like the way people say "well vocals don't even matter" or "they just need to be good at dancing" like girl? Just because some of your faves sound bad? Last time I checked we listened to the music not the stage presence or the choreos. Like we just expect them to be ok that's all we ask. And the way they say were asking too much for just wanting them to be ok? Yeah no

5th gen only started because Mnet didn't want Zerobseone to have to go up against NewJeans and Fifty Fifty. By creating a separate generation ZB1 could be the leaders. When Mnet said this there was a lot of pushback from fans but companies saw this as a great idea because NewJeans and Fifty Fifty had already broken into the global market a little bit with their hit songs and no one wanted to compete against them. Not to mention IVE and NewJeans were really big rookie groups who managed to get a PAK each comeback. However, considering fans of 5th gen groups compare their achievements with the 4th generation we've entered 4.5 gen not 5th gen.

Batter up was just a bad choice for a debut

batterup wasnt bad because the song itself sounded horrible, it was bad because people were disapointed in YG's inability to branch out. it sounded so much like a blackpink song that it seemed as if the company was just trying to make another blackpink so that they could get more money. also theres a difference between bad vocals and average vocals !! as long as they can hold a note live while standing still they could be good enough, but if they have a problem doing that, or singing in an easy range or register, then it becomes a problem.

THANK YOU!!! I am sick and tired of Stans whining about how vocals doesn’t matter in K-pop and I’m here like sweetie. Yes it does. It’s music genre. They are musicians they should be able to sing, they don’t have to be Ariana Grande or Madison beer level vocalist All We want from them is not to sound like two cows strangling each other underwater every time they open their mouth like have some self-respect oh my God

Opinion 7 I felt SO incredibly hard. I don’t need or expect every idol to be the next Lily or Jongho or whoever else, nor do I think they deserve to be trashed for a few sour notes. What I expect is the level of competency that should be expected from someone who is paid in large part to sing, and from an agency that either trains them to or can pay for that training.

I agree about the batter up thing people were really reaching like the song wasn't bad at all

i think the batter up hate can be partly explained by the concept. i myself was not expecting a girlcrush-ish concept since a lot of the members seemed like they would be well suited for a brighter, lighter style so i assume others may feel the same. the song isn't terrible (i actually think the chorus choreo is very cute) but it doesn't help that they didn't release a bside that would showcase more of their versatility :(

I love Batter up btw, it reminds me of old hip hop and the song itself is different from what 4th and "5th" gen have released

I'm telling you i heard about 5th gen a month ago and i was so confused

I also used to deny 5th gen early on but now I think 4th gen and 5th gen just have different feels and I can't explain it. Like there is just no way someone could make me think xikers and zb1 debuted in the same gen as ateez cuz ateez just feel so much older than them. I do think that some people do say 5th gen so their faves don't have to compete with anyone but I still think we're now in 5th gen (I'm not one of them cuz I'd still say xikers are more skilled than enhyphen any time of the day 😲 don't try to fight me about what I just said tho)

I totally agree with the 5th gen opinion. I've been a K-pop listener since 2nd gen. From the 1st-4th gen, you can see and hear the shift in music, mv, and how the companies would promote their idols/groups. Not to mention, there was no over-saturation of groups from the "big 3". The groups debuting this year are similar to those that debuted in the last few years. If New Jeans had been the mark of a new gen coming (we can't deny that they shook the K-pop industry), I would have understood, but if they're still 4th gen, what separates 4th from 5th?
