I also have had this conversation with myself and admittedly the idea of having corporations paying a robot tax makes perfect sense to justify the part where those displaced being given money from the government. It just sorta always made sense to me that if we have robots doing enough jobs why wouldn’t we give money to the populace who now have free time to do anything with their lives. And when the robots inevitably develop Free will and whatnot we acknowledge them and coexist

The problem is robots will take some jobs, there will still be millions of people working mostly in the trades

The thing that we miss is what sounds more like socialism:

The government and every company incorporated under it refusing to hire people because something can do the job sending the world into a deep and massive recession.

Or

Having the robots or companies that use them pay a little to prevent mass unemployment and a recession on the levels of 1929 or worse.

There is a massive difference between a capitalist economy with a little fail-safe vs straight up socialism and fascism and communism.

And what would the robots use to pay taxes? The entire point companies use robots is so they don't have to hand out paychecks. If companies were told to give robots paychecks, they'd just take human workers back at that point.
Plus a line should be drawn for how much robots do and stuff. Personally, I don't think robots should take ANY human jobs.

But... WHO is going to buy all the products the robots make? Nobody will have any money from work.
For a few years, the robot masters will be able to have the bots insulate them from peasants, but those castles will get fewer and fewer until there are no humans left.
