Matt Hsu's own battle with chronic pain from the age of 16 in his feet, knees, hips, back, shoulders, elbows, forearms, wrists, hands, and head gives him a uniquely thorough understanding of musculoskeletal pain, the ways in which it can undermine an entire life, and the mental and physical hurdles that keep people from getting out of it.

When not filming videos, he's working out in the living room, surfing, learning dance or gymnastics moves, or riding a bike with his son in tow.

Thank you for this! I had a physiotherapist list a whole host of things that were "off the table" for me, including lunges. My new physiotherapist is all positive energy like you. She tells me what to watch for so I don't injure myself further, but she's as determined as I am that I do whatever I want!

Right now I consider myself in rehab to elevate out of the decrepitude I was suffering at age 64. What finally woke me up (and finding you) was literally falling on my face one day trying to pull my pants on and noticing I could hardly get out of bed in the morning. And having no clue how to fix it. Walking wasn't enough. I was in pain while walking! After six months of following your various programs, I can laugh about it now. 😂One of my goals is to be able to do various yoga routines. Not just to stay out of pain, but to enjoy the challenge, interesting movements, and feeling good in my body.

Back in the 70s my sister had a slipped disc, couldn't move, she figured out that if she strengthened the muscles around the backbone and surrounding areas, she should improve.
Well it worked, she got herself strong and never suffered with it again.

Just a little feedback from the end of phase 2 of the back pain fix program. Because of other health issues, I have every 2 months some tests in hospital and they do measurments of the muscular mass each time. I started very underweighted with muscle atrophy and pain everywhere, and I had to gain 8kg of muscles to be back in the bottom of the norm. In the end of phase 2 (with a proper diet) I gained 8kg weight, from which 6kg are of muscular mass, which means I'm almost back in the norm. And of course my mobility improved a lot, pain almost disappeared and I feel like a lot of things I missed (like hiking for example) will be soon possible again. I spent a lot in physical therapy last few years and nothing has been that efficient, far from it! So thanks a lot for this program!

Noticing even just micro improvements 🎉
I signed up for the back pain program and even though it’s been two months? And due to the fact that I have severe weakness and serious health issues I have not been able to do it as consistently as recommended and I am only able to still do phase 1 but it’s very encouraging because just doing that small amount I can already see reduction in my pain and jammed and twisted hip
I am very hard on myself and I want it to go fast because I used to be an athlete years ago But I really appreciate your videos because they keep me focused and encouraged to stay the course. Never give up

AND you know what I've been thinking about taking some classes in boxing (not me at all!), just because I'm curious about how it works. Strategy # 2 tells me, go for it!

Hiked 6 miles today and my the area between my bra strap and waist band was in agony. It’s a trouble area since thoracic surgery in 2003. I find cupping helps but I’d love to know how to fix the issue.

I notice as you moved toward the screen, Matt, on your low squat, your knees tended to move towards each other. Is this what you wanted? It may be possible to use the legs with the knees in line with the feet.

Is this good for really old people? I have a clogged foremen after a herniated disc & arthritis. A big nerve that services my leg goes thru that foramen, pinching the nerve, causing chronic pain. Also have intermittent pain in right leg. Probably due to arthritis. I know what sore muscles feel like having hiked, walked, etc. until muscles sore when younger. The pain I experience is not sore muscles. I am 80 yo & female.
