Compare the way Debbie reacted to Eve cuddling with Mark in his hospital bed with empathy and understanding, to how Eve's dad reacted to Mark crying by Eve's bedside by basically kicking him out and acting territorial over being in the room and you get a real sense of the different parenting Mark and Eve received.
