At Mavericks the water is in the 50's and the air temp can be anything as you are on it early and on the boat at o'dark thirty. It's fuckin cold and foggy at Half Moon bay. That wave is nasty and getting held under for two waves and getting caught inside in that cold water. Holy crap! You are being held under spinning around in that cold water with overcast skies you have no idea which way is up all the while struggling to hold that last gasp of breath while the man in the gray suit is swimming around. Mav's is dead center of the white triangle. That waves jacks and comes crashing down. It is so nasty little else compares. I'd rather be anywhere else in warm water and my baggies instead of a heavy wetsuit and booties and a hood trying to surf monster waves.

Personal I think cyclops, The Right, shipsterns is for me the most dangerous waves. But everybody have a different opinion. Mavericks is certainly one of the most dangerous wave in the world.

1974 - Venice beach - had some of the biggest waves - 20 ft waves - and I was a high school kid - body surfer - what a ride - with a felling = rush - and you look around and the beach is closed off - except for surfers only = rush

pipeline is very gnarly. But teahupoo and shipsterns are the two craziest waves in the world. Not for size but for power and crazinest they definately take the the title.

I would love to surf a beautiful place like that but living in a place where there's no ocean nearby and only going once a year holds me down but I'm getting better so one day

Ryan, how many times has chump Slater rode Mav's? Jeff Clark surfed it alone for over 15 years and is a true champ not a chump. I've seen video of Slater surfing Shipsterns but he wiped out clean on the first two attempts and the waves were not that big. 1000's surf Waimea year round..big fuckin' deal and yeah, I do surf bitch in SOCAL.
