I watched a geological show and they discovered large deposits of Ruby's and gold on Greenland. Seems like such a great place to go live and fish, crab, prospect and get a claim for mining ⛏️ and just enjoy life exploring a very interesting area of the world. Plus I love the relaxed but hard working pace they live at. I love countries that are more in tune with nature and run its country off of nature's ways.

Bluejay Mining have been given permits to extract the huge deposits of ilmenite, nickel and copper in Greenland. The Danish and Greenland governments are backing the projects and are equity investors.

I understand that there are never-used crude-oil tankers. Make the slight modifications and use them to transport melt-water from the glaciers to any city that would pay, thus increasing national income, and perhaps accelerating the exposure of mineral deposits. This has the advantage of being stoppable if there proves to be any disadvantages.

Rare earth metals are pretty rare *but they aren't extremely rare* the only reason they're called rare is because getting them out of the ore is difficult

As someone who works in Greenland, rare earth mining is far from Greenland's only hope to obtain economic independence. Greenland has one of the largest supplies of high quality sand due to the glacier and as demand goes up for silicon chips and concrete, this sand is becoming an increasingly viable way for Greenland to profit without the need for explosive mining operations. Additionally, Greenland has a booming tourist industry. New flights have started from Iceland and Nuuk is expanding its airport. This could eventually lead to increased tourism from the US at the same scale seen in Iceland. Greenland needs to grow sustainably and in an environmentally friendly way and hopefully it will gain independence soon.

For the record, despite the name, rare earth deposits are common. However you are right that the extraction and purification of the ore is very polluting. At present only China thinks the money they get from the minerals is worth the pollution involved. Not very green, the CCP.

A monopoly over a mineral extraction licence does not imply that Greenland would not get payments. They would likely receive a royalty and extraction payment along with land rentals. The extraction licence is not a sale of the resource but a right to explore and exploit.
