Answer
from the Toyota (Carline)following a thorough reading of the ECU!!!!

TOYOTA WARRANTY!!!
(Participation)

Concerns: Toyota Yaris GR - your request for participation in repair costs
Following the engine failure of your Toyota Yaris GR, we took delivery of this vehicle, delivered by a repairer, on April 11, 2024.
To follow up on your request, after observing the damage, we carried out a report which was sent to the Technical Service of Toyota Switzerland. A request for photos was made to us to analyze:
1. The general condition of the vehicle
2. The type and state of wear of the tires
3. Any modifications to the vehicle
Furthermore, a thorough reading of the electronic unit allowed them to detect, among other things, the vehicle drifting at 173 km/h and the engine overheating to 120°C. It turns out that the damage observed is due to inappropriate use of the vehicle and not intended by the manufacturer.
In view of the above, we hope you understand that Toyota cannot respond to your request.
For your information, after a quick estimate of the damage, it turns out that the cost of repairs far exceeds the market value of your vehicle.
We are sorry not to be able to give you more joyful news and please
Please accept, our best regards.

On the bright side you have a 33% chance of finding the problem in the first cylinder you check.

If the car is not modified and it is still under warranty then don’t share with Toyota that you drive the car hard. They’ll deny your warranty claim even though they market the car to driving enthusiasts.

Toyota already pushed 300+ horsepower out if that little 1.6 inline 3, that's over 100 horsepower per cylinder. Tuning it without further supporting mods to prepare for the higher torque and Output usually results in..failure. always remember to use supporting mods first!

No matter what brand, once power goes up, risk goes up.

normally what I've seen is that an engine can last around 12k Km (but can varry widely) in race conditions but it doesn't mean it blows up after that, probably because they take them apart after that interval. I think you need to write down all track hours to evaluate the wear and oil change intervals. or put a 20x multiplier for track laps. like 20 laps x 5km = 100km; equivalent to 20x 100= 2000km; 5 track days= 10.000 km; 12000km track sessions= 240.000km normal condition. Something like that but with real data like race cars rebuild intervals vs how many miles it last if not taken to the track.

Those in the comments making excuses for Toyota and blaming the owner are the problem. If these manufacturers are going to market the vehicle as one that can be performance driven then it needs to be able to do so. Toyota has a bad habit of doing this already with the GR86 and already got busted trying to deny warranties for the sealant in the oil pickup. That said, you should make sure your oil pickup isnt clogged too.

Three cylinders means literally impossible to balance perfectly.
I see 87 Corollas doing gymkhanas and track days in Australia, with 300, 000km on them! Original engine.

It happened right after coming out of a corner. Oil starvation??? Is the oil pan baffled?

From Toyota website: Using your GR Yaris for Track Days or similar events does not invalidate your vehicle's Warranty. Any potential failure to your GR Yaris during a Track Day or similar event are not specifically excluded and manufacturing defects within the Warranty period will be supported.

The actual title should be "I blew up my modified Toyota Yaris GR live"...

Did you have an additional oil cooler installed?

Must install oil coolers, it is very important when you tune the car

When you reach 120+ degrees C, (it usually shows lower on the cluster than it shows higher on the logger) 90 degrees C is the best working oil temperature for a thick 10w60, if you use 0w20 maybe 80 degrees C is the best working temperature. Anything beyond the best working temperature exponentially deteriorates lubrication effect as the temperature climbs up. 120 may not be a bomb level temperature but it will at a high degree wear out your bearings and piston rings

Tuned engines produce more combustion, and the internal parts and alloys expands ever so slightly more in intense usage like in race tracks. The more sensitive it becomes for lubrication. Use fluidampr pulley to reduce vibrations and you might as well rebuild with forged internals to avoid stock con rod bending over and eventually fracturing

Well, i think you could argue it's the Gazoo RACING yaris and has the "Circuit Pack". You might expect it to survive a track day. But - equally - the manufactuers don't have endless liability regardless of use and reasonable care.

Same happened to my GR YARIS last Saturday with only 12.000 km, even with additional oil cooler!

This is exactly why I own Honda Civics my homie 🤜🤛💯 if it isn't made in the 90's through early 2000s, I wouldn't touch it.
