What is a refreshable clone in Oracle Database and why is it sometimes referred to "The Poor Man’s Data Guard." In this tutorial you will learn, via live demonstration, how to use Refreshable PDB Clones to provide DataGuard-like capabilities, even on Oracle Standard Edition!

This is Lesson 1 of 4 in this tutorial:
Lesson 1 - the prerequisite, Oracle Multitenant Database
Lesson 2 - How to Create a REfreshable Clone (demonstration)
Lesson 3 - Use Case: Why and How to Use...
Summary - Summary and Q and A from the original webinar.

In this lesson John briefly discusses the prerequisite, Oracle Multitenant Database. If you want more education on Multitenant Architecture watch this SkillBuilders tutorial:

Background
We all know that Multitenant Architecture is inevitable. We also know that some sites have resisted converting to it. Well, OK: it can be viewed as a needless complication. However, once you start using it, you will think “why didn’t I do this years ago”. One reason for this is how easily you can clone and relocate PDBs.

The Refreshable Clone capability takes PDB cloning to another level. It gives you Data Guard type capabilities for preventing data loss and for zero downtime platform migrations, even for SE2 systems. This tutorial will describe the usage case, and demonstrate how to do it.

Audience:
Prerequisite knowledge: you need to understand Multitenant Architecture. But then, that is a prerequisite for anything breathing nowadays.
