Nice update Mark, check the chain too, once the new shocks are fitted. Extra shock height will increase load on the chain...just a thought!

Look at how the Ducati Scambler is set up. It has a kind of floating rear mud gaurd attached to both sides of the swing arm that displays the rego plate. This looks pretty good and will work on your CB.

I think putting the bracket going across just under the lights will be best. To bad you can side mount your plates.

I see a lot of number plates neatly mounted vertical behind the rear shock on bobbers, that looks tidy too. A snap back hinge is a good idea too. I can see your dad giving you a lecture on cutting up the rear haha

License plate bracket could be a side mount with a snap hinge so you can fold it away when riding off-road. The Harley bobbers use that style and it looks pretty good. But anyway, good to see the CB250 again, it sound great too!

having exactly the same problem and I'm stumped to. be good to see what ideas you come up with.

Hopefully 20 mm will do it, if the new springs are softer it might not make much difference. I think the front mudguard could do with being a few inches higher or on the bottom yoke, that will give it a much better stance and it won't look so road bikey . Great idea with a side mount plate, just put it on a snap hinge so it will fold away rather than snapping of if the bike goes over. Great build so far mate.

I recon a u bracket with a shorty mudguard

Don’t piss about with it matey! Just make your bracket for the blinkers, then add the number plate and angle it backwards, which will form a mudguard. Regards, Dazza. 🇬🇧

Could pull the Shocks apart and add in a spacer for more compression, depending on the amount hit/changing the preload.
But more travel is always good for off-road as it gives the most adjustments, but on the rear, it will change the geometry.

for sure needs a short stubby tailguard on it in the same vain as the front guard i reckon

Hi mate. Bikes coming along nice. I had the same problem with my cb250 cafe racer build. The springs will definitely work well for you. I am having the same problem with my number plate as I am running the same rear light set up as you. I am trying a few things. If it works I will send you some pics. Also happy Australia 🇦🇺 day.!! Cheers!!!

add a little mudguard on the back and mount the plate there. look the triumph scrambler 1200

Idea for license plate mount, if I remember correctly there is a plate that the seat bolts to could you not bolt or weld a couple of light weight stay arms to that, which then protrude out the rear and go up or down to mount the license plate to.

Hi tad here I reckon on side like a cafe racer bike better than nothing

That little bike has come out great so far! Yeah, I'm thinking that the side-mount option would look best, but if the pate could double as a mud guard....?

Due to the weather I can’t keep on riding. So, I’ll just keep on keeping on until winter breaks and spring gets here.

Have a look at what Husqvarna done with the tail on the Svartpilen 401, might be able to do something like that

The number plate will destroy itself if mounted to the swing arm.
Like others have said - a short extension welded to the back of the seat tube is the way to go.

I agree with the others, a short mudguard and numberplate hanging off the back would look OK. cheers .
