Author Kurt Vonnegut says that when he got home from the second World War, he thought it would be easy to write about the firebombing of Dresden (which he witnessed first-hand as an American POW being held there). It wasn't so easy, taking him almost 25 years of trial and error to finally nail it. In this excerpt from the upcoming documentary "Kurt Vonnegut: Unstuck in Time," director Robert B. Weide explains why it took Vonnegut so long to crack the code to the novel that would finally land him squarely on the world stage as one of America's most beloved authors.
