Some years ago a magazine (it may have been Esquire) profiled Wayne Cochran. It related that at one point he pulled up in front of his parents' house in his newish Lincoln, and his mother said, "Wayne, that car must have cost a thousand dollars!" It was more like $15K.

People have no idea how great his band was with Jaco Pastorius on bass keeping it funky and groovy

In the 60's a bowling alley in Calumet City Illinois had bands in the bar on weekends. My Dad was on a league and would tell me about the bands he saw. One night he says you're not going to believe this guy, had a blonde pompadour! Then Dad's telling me about a band called White Trash! I didn't know who these guy's were at the time? Later on the Jackie Gleason show my Dad yells to me come here, that's the guy! It was Wayne Cochran! Later I realized White Trash was Johnny and Edgar Winter! Too bad I was only 13 at the time or I could've seen some really great music!😊

WC used to play The El Mocambo in Toronto. All testosterone, all the time. Jaco Pastorius was anomalous in a t-shirt and jeans. All the other guys in frilly shirts, gold medallions and Nudie suits. WC put holes in the ceiling and drank a bottle of scotch on the bandstand with the other musicians. I spied him walking to his bus after the show, sans wig. You wouldn’t have thought it was the same man, -short, thin hair. His show was unforgettable, -a force of nature.
