I AM 71 YEARS OLD AND MY HUSBAND PASSED AWAY 4 yrs and 5 mos. AGO. WE NEARLY MADE IT TO OUR 49 th. ANNIVERSARY. I HAVE BEEN JUST TOTALLY DISINTERESTED IN ANYTHING. SO FINALLY I DECIDED TO TRY MY HAND AT DRAWING & PAINTING AGAIN, I WAS ALWAYS FAIRLY GOOD IN ART. HOWEVER A LOT HAS CHANGED SINCE I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, PRODUCTS SUCH AS PAPER/PENCILS, ETC.. I DID LEARN SOME THINGS WHILE I WATCHED YOUR VIDEO TODAY, BECAUSE TRYING TO USE COLORED PENCILS HAS ABOUT STRESSED ME OUT TRYING TO GET THEM TO BLEND. THANK YOU FOR SHARING. GOD BLESS YOU. 😄 SHIRLEY FROM TEXAS, USA.🗽🌊🌹🌸 HELLO FROM MY 2 CATS ALSO😹🐾😻🐾🐾🌸

I've watched a few "blending" videos out of curiosity as I'm new to colored pencils, but have 70 years of experience with art. I was doing my second mandala the other day and found myself doing the burnishing technique because that is how I learned to blend paint. I really liked the results and thought, "But, that's not how the videos told me to do it." Thanks. This is very helpful.

This is one of the most informative and useful video I've ever watched. I've been colouring for years, but watching this made me realise I knew nothing 😂 Honestly this is gonna up my game so much. Thank you so much! I appreciate your time, knowledge, and experience.

I love my Polychromos, but always wanted more vivid colours and now I realise I’m not layering enough! Thank you so much for this really great video 😊

Hot pressed watercolor paper, 100% cotton, and Strathmore 500 series Bristol Vellum are both excellent surfaces for colored pencil. A, so, Canson Mi-Teintes pastel paper, on the smoother of the two sides is great for pencil.

One of the best tutorial on colour pencils. Brief and precisely explained, and demonstrated. Thank you.

I am so glad to have found your channel. I have been puzzled as to why I was not getting success with my colored pencils and you have solved my problems. Thank you for this video.

Even for seasoned colored pencil artists this is an excellent instructional video and very true.

First off, this is probably one of the best tutorials on blending that I have seen.
I tend to blend with all methods, though I will sometimes use my lightest color in the blend in place of the white. It really depends on what I am coloring. Another thing that I do, when blending with white/lightest color, is to color a light layer over the area to brighten up the color. I learned that from another YouTuber.
I thank you for this tutorial & look forward to more!

If you want a smooth surface to work on, try 300 pound hot press water colour paper. You can get it in different sized pads/blocks

I studied art in college (Illustration and Graphic Design) but the instructors were so brutal that I’ve hardly drawn in 40 years. Very sad, as I was always sketching before. Anyways, I’m retiring soon (I ended up working in finance) and have decided to finally start again. I was always great with graphite or pen and ink but not colour. So I’ve bought some colouring books to practice - particularly flesh tones as I love portraiture. Once I feel I’m ready, I’ll begin filling the sketchbooks I’ve bought. I decided to buy oil-based pencil crayons because I’ve never used them (and I liked the thought of the challenge) and because I read that once you’ve the hang of them, they’re better. Thanks very much for illustrating the difference as most of the videos I’ve watched only cover wax-based pencils, so they’re useless to me. So far, I think the oil suits my style as I’ve always liked to layer with a softer texture - so we’ll see how things progress! Again, thanks very much. Excellent video.

I'll tell you what's been done: you dissolved the wax with the mineral spirits and the pigment fell to the bottom. Your second layer of pencil is skating across a layer of clear wax that has flattened itself.
The wax only dissolved and melted a bit with the solvent but it didn't actually get rid of the wax. Your second layer is "painted" over that clear wax layer.
Using that transparent layer to your advantage means you can really make your colours pop; especially if you varnish with a top clear layer (varnish, resin, glass, whatever).
Any unevaporated spirit left on the first layer will pull more colour off your pencil too.
Having said this, I see why it works but I haven't used this method yet so thank you for the video. I look forward to trying a colour pop effect with it. 😁

My favorite is burnishing. I absolutely love that technique, but now I understand the difference between the Prismacolors and Polychromos. You made it so simple. I also use a blender pencil and Vasaline. I experiment a lot and have been coloring for about a year, and my pages are getting better and better.

I love what you do, I tried the burnish blending but with arthritis in my hands, it's a no-no. I do use OMS, with brushes or stumps. I really need a lot of practice, I follow your videos, I love your voice, shoothing for one with chronic pain who get lost in the coloring moment and forget about everything else. Thank you.

I learned so much from you. I am 76 years old, and in August 22, 2022, I fell in my home. I had a brain bleed and had surgery. I am recovering. My physical therapist suggests coloring in adult coloring books. It has been very exciting and helpful in my using my hands. I am so happy I watched your lesson. I am going to try the Oil Based pencils. I have the wax Prismacolor premier and do not like them. I want my coloring to have somewhat of a professional look. Again thank you

Oh thank god!! After nearly thirty years using water colour pencils I accidentally bought a very inexpensive set of one hundred and sixty oil pencils!! Ive never used them before & have discovered they have totally different qualities to water colours & I seem unable to blend them as I am accustomed. I found this tutorial so informative & educational!! THANKYOU! Now I know it is a more laborious, time consuming exercise that requires patience & a gentle, persistent touch. I shall uitlise everything you showed. I'm so grateful! Also now understand that using water colour paper is not right & I'll have to go explore at the local art shop.

I’m glad you did this video as my fingers dislocate every day due to my genetic condition, so it’s good to see I can use other ways to colour on those days 😊
Thank you for this and I love your channel, it’s good for me to get lost colouring and watching your videos as a distraction to the pain 😊👍🏻

My favorite is burnishing. I love my Polychromos. Then again, I love all my pencils. Each brand has its own personality, and depending what I color, I will choose one brand over another. Thank you for this video, Claire!

As someone who knows next to nothing about coloring with pencils, this video was so helpful! Thank you for taking the time to explain how this works. I've been trying to incorporate colored pencils with my Zentangles and have been kind of frustrated with the results, but now I have a better idea of how to approach things for the result I'm trying to achieve.

I'm new to adult coloring and was a bit overwhelmed by the difference on how to blend oil vs wax. This video was so very helpful and easy to follow that I am actually starting to color rather than collect art supplies. It was so very informative! Keep up.the amazing job and thank you for all of the hard work and dedication that you place into your wonderful channel. It is greatly appreciated! 🎨💕🐱
