Very good walk through. Not to many videos cover all the steps. This one covers many steps. Thanks.

Hi! First Thanks for the tutorial!
I'm trying to use "SQL statement (optional, requires database)", for a custom query, but it doesn't work at all. I managed to make the connection and show all the tables, but I need to use a SQL statement. It's possible ?

Hi Matt, while you publish this report in the powerBI service, do you use on-Prem gateway to refresh the data, ( here Azure VM and PowerBI service are in the Azure cloud)

Sorry for asking, still little confused why we need all the components to get a dashboard going?
bacpac file is a database which needs a SQL service to open?
But SQL server is on the local machine

But we c create a resource group having 1.storage and 2. VM and we have virtue SQL server on that VM
Then we use that VM SQL machine to access the DB in the storage in resource group?

Then we use the PowerBI desktop which is on local machine to connect to the VM SQL server to get data from the cloud storage??

Why? Could we reduce the components above? and why use cloud to do that??

could we have your storage at local machine and then have powerBI and directly use PowerBI to get the data? Or
We need a .bacpac file, a SQL server and local PowerBI and then we use PowerBI get SQL server access the .bacpac file???
