The Patriarchy that's centered around providing for your kids' mother?

My family literally tries to tell me that everything they do is sexualized because men are inherently evil and gross. Meanwhile... its always coupled with a girl who is half naked or even naked sometimes.. THEN they try to tell me that being overweight is good, but men forced them to become "attractive".... it hurts my head.

I was confused by the word patriarchy until I understood that it meant "not my imaginary utopia". Then it all makes sense, so.. sentences like "patriarchy harms men as much as women" means "not living in my imaginary utopia harms men as much as women".

Women throughout Western Civ today have it drastically better in every way than those in any other place or time in history, yet seem angrier/more miserable than ever.

Patriarchy is for some, a kind of (post-)modern version of original sin.

Today we find that “women hold all the authority with no responsibility”

I stopped caring about feminists long ago, and Im a female. I stopped caring about the lgbt debates either. In fact, I dont even watch news anymore. I dont even care about any of this bs anymore, and it literally freed me from most crap that people worry and care about. I care about my family and those I know in person. When others care about putting their ideals and their perspectives and forcing them down other peoples throats, thats when we have problems in the world. When you take a step back and realize what am I doing? Shouldn't I care about myself and my family. It really puts things into perspective. Im tired of the bs, and I dont care what people do with their bodies, its their body. I literally do not give one care, as long as people leave me alone and dont force me to their opinions or force me to take their drugs. Literally only privileged people have the time to sit there and care about these things. Normal people go to work and do things.

The patriarchy is alive and well in the hearts and minds of many individuals.

Thank you for
"Replace 'patriarchy' with 'immutable sex differences, that I don't like''"
This is a completely new thought for me. I have been lacking new thoughts lately, so thank you.

"Having an ax to grind in life." is an age old axiom, but still very relevant.
"Unhappy Campers" ever abound.
"Wanting it hot when it's cold, and cold when it's hot, always wanting what is not."
I'm dysfunctionsl; you're dysfunctional; each to his or her own level...and sometimes the Unhappy among us group and bellow against realities they don't like. Sinners all.

When I was a kid, the adults would tell us a good trade is one in which each party feels they got the better deal. We have it within our power to give our good fortune to others less fortunate, but we often don't choose to do so beyond what we are compelled to do by law or society. Even so, there's a real chance that despite the fact that things are pretty good for everyone (relative to the past), a lot of us choose to perceive it as if we are simply minimizing the disparity of misery. Things could be fair and still leave a lot of people feeling like they didn't get the fair end of a bargain. Few of us are going to trust someone else's opinion on what's fair when it disagrees with our own.

A woman got furious with me for saying "boys will be boys", said she loathed that expression. I said "it is what it is" and ran.

I have always mistakenly thought Brett’s concern about the corruption of academic institutions was exaggerated. However today I attended my son’s graduation at Columbia University and the speeches given by faculty members confirmed everything Brett says.

Very interesting discussion again, thanks. I would like to say ( re being pinned down for hours on end under a cluster feeding infant) that it doesn' t have to hurt. Its probably the interplay of émotions and mind on body that causes the pain. Its very difficult to not wish to be doing something else and to get to a point of serenity and accepting that this is all I have to be doing right now. Listen to a podcast ( the radio back in my day) of something interesting or some beautiful music to stop thinking how I wish I could get on with something else....thoughts that lead to resentment and maybe physical pain. There are also practical tips to be learnt from other experienced women, such as leaving the nipples ( between feeds) exposed to the open air. The air circulation is beneficial.

One day (in the past) I was walking with her family along the side of a busy road when her 2&1/2 yr old decided to take off running into the road, it took both parents to get him to stop until we caught up to him and pull him off to the side. My sister, as mad as she could be (and growing up with her I've seen her mad), said through gritted teeth "Boy your lucky your cute!". Don't know if this added to the conversation but it came to mind.

Why can't we say that there are traditionally male personality attributes that we label masculine, that there are traditionally female personality attributes that we label feminine, but that not all men have to exhibit exclusively masculine traits, and not all women have to exhibit exclusively feminine traits? Second Wave Feminism dug its own grave when they lambasted and stigmatized masculinity and femininity as some form of patriarchal plot to keep women "in their place".

We went from two genders, not to no genders as the Second Wave Feminists hoped. Instead we went to a multiplicity of personalities masquerading as genders. Intersectionality is the out-of-control frankenstein monster spawned by otherwise well-meaning feminists and race-conscious progressives.
