I wonder if the name "red cap" is a tip o the hat to Red Caps on trains. Most people dont travel by trains these days, but back in the day it was very common to hear the expression, 'let's find a red cap'. This was an employee of the train, a sort of porter to help with seating, lifting bags, and general information. Or there could be no connection at all, just that Orandas have a 'red cap'. I have started to feed my red cap oranda some colour enhancing food that contains astaxanthin, but I was just wondering, would the astaxanthin impact on the white body of the red cap and make it change cour from teh pure white to say orange for example? I tried keeping red cap oranda, s but they died beautifull peacefull fish but very susceptible to swim bladder disease. I think feeding on protein balls is a good food for them .🐠
