Boost for India's armed forces; Defence ministry nod to GSAT-7B satellite in ₹8,357 cr package

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh headed Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved procurement of Army satellite, other equipment worth over Rs 8,000 crore, that will enhance operational preparedness of armed forces. This includes night sight (image intensifier), light vehicles gs 4x4, air defence fire control radar (light) and GSAT 7B satellite for the armed forces. In a bid to encourage innovation, the DAC also accorded consolidated Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for procurements amounting to Rs 380.43 crore from the iDEX startups and MSMEs. GSAT-7B was a necessity because IA had to share the information with IN satellite. Now they can track independently whole of the border and the IN can monitor Indian Ocean without any problem

It is good to see the emphasis on indigenous technologies in the defence sector. The same emphasis needs to be there when it comes to social technologies as well. Technologies that are needed in everyday life to scientific equipments. The government should put same importance to develop social technologies in our country. National security is important but having good indigenous social technologies will creat far greater job opportunities. Social technologies also needs to be given a lot of focus.
