Try cutting a diamond shape where you need to fill and maybe use red or green color. It should look nice.

I had no clue that honeysuckle got that big. It must have been a very old vine.

That’s really large honey suckle. We have lots of that vine growing here where I live in NC; however, it never gets large enough to carve into a cane. Where are you located? I like to make unique canes also.
