The Seiko Prospex SPB143J1: A Year on the Wrist Conclusion | What's Good & Bad.
In this video, I will do a review of my Seiko Prospex SPB143J1 the reissue of the first Seiko diver 62MAS. This is my a year on wrist review of this one of the most popular Seiko divers. In this review, I will tell you if I still like my Seiko SPB143 after a year of owning or planning to sell it. What I like the most and what I dislike about this watch. Is this a great value diver or just an overrated and overhyped watch from Seiko?

3 years of ownership here. Long story short guys: 10/10 looks, sub-par movement, better than average bracelet (also wear it on a tropic strap - it's the better option), very minor misalignment concerns that shouldn't even bother you, a bit of bezel backplay, case has fantastic - I mean FANTASTIC coating which does not scratch and looks a bit darker. Overall, its an exceptional watch to get you through the years and to take on every holiday with you. I would pair it with a Speedmaster, personally.

These SPB 62Mas remakes have the best dial and case design and dimensions of any Seiko diver ever made. If Seiko just took the time to refine the 6R35 movement, make better fitting end links and refine the clasp, these divers would be some the best on the market...up there with the Tudor BB58. This was a home run for Seiko, BUT with a bit more care it could have been a GrandSlam. Despite the imperfections I love them. I own the 143, 147 and 213!!!

I have the blue / white limited variant. SPB213. It’s a beautiful, sturdy watch, perfect proportions. The real downside is the movement’s accuracy. Mine fluctuated between +10 to -14 even after regulation at a Seiko’s authorized watchmaker. Doesn’t compare to a SW200 or a ETA 2824 which can be bought at this price range. But we bought this watch because we love it and that’s it. Probably my last Seiko though.

My SPB145 was +15 sec/day new but after 6 months, it started running 4 minutes fast/day. I returned it to the store where i purchased it. They sent it to their in-house watch repair person who couldn't fix it, so they sent it to Seiko. After 6 weeks, i got back and it is now COSC accurate. I hope it will continue like this.Time will tell.😊

Received mine (SPB213j1) 4 days ago and am measuring the accuracy. So far, not too bad. I'll give it a week and put it on my timegrapher and adjust myself.
The bevel is a little off with respect to lining up but it's not a deal breaker.

The dimensions is what helps sell this watch. Other than that, I so wanted to like this watch, but at a grand, I think it's unacceptable for the gap in the bracelet between the lugs, the bezel misalignment, and the movement. I also have a seiko that I have to keep resetting the time every few days. On a personal preference, I find it too heavy for its size and it's too thick. I completely understand what you mean when you say that you love the watch but also hate it.

I’m waiting for mine to get delivered. I’m stoked to put it on my wrist. Thanks for the review!

My SPB 143 ran 20-25 Spd slow when new--so way out of spec. I sent it back to Seiko for warranty service and now it runs about 10-15 Spd fast. Not great but I can live with that.

I wear it on a brown leather strap which makes it look more vintage and I love it, the watch I wear the most

Ciao, io sono stato fortunato, lunetta ben allineata, precisione da +10 a -10, orologio molto robusto, sono molto contento di averlo acquistato. Grazie.

I sent my 143 back to Seiko uk for recalibration no problem. Yes it took 4 weeks for them to return the watch, but it just sings now. All good. Great timepiece

Good review. The movement is my problem with the watch. I own two watches with the 6R15 movement, and they really aren't good. At the price I bought those two SARB models, it's ok. But at the SPB143's price point, no.

Have it regulated and it should improve your accuracy. Just curious, was the accuracy that bad right out of the box or did it get worst over time? I am waiting for the SPB239 to arrive next week. That watch doesn't come with a bracelet. Anyone know a good alternative for aftermarket bracelet, please share.

Thanks for the review. Accuracy is what turns me off from mechanical watches. Also, the fact that I have to keep them on a winder is a hassle since I only wear an Apple watch on a work day. But I have an itch for another mechanical dive watch and the aesthetics of Seiko SPB series is just perfect for me.
I have to decide wether to get a Seiko SPB or a Tudor Pelagos 39mm. Pelagos 39 is much more expensive so that is another problem. I am just as pleased by SPB visually and I am reluctant to pay 4 times the price for a Tudor for COSC accuracy...
I love the grab and go feature of Seiko quartz diver. I will probably end up with an SPB rather than a Tudor..

The accuracy is really off though, maybe take it to seiko to check? Mine isn't that good also but I'm getting like -1min every 5-6 days

I have my SBDC107 regulated and it performs +-5 per day. This movement is HARD to regulate due to light weight components compare to solid 4r35.
