In this video, learn how to make a slat wall and save money at the same time. I'll guide you step by step and show you the tools and materials I used. In addition, I provide a breakdown of the costs. This video is part of a series called "Building My Dream YouTube Studio," where I build things like my standing Desk and a popular style Desk Shelf.

"this is what you'll need"
shows a whole clusterfuck of power tools 😂

Supplies from home depot. Basic power tools from harbor freight. Made tons of these walls at a fraction of the price of pre made. Trying to now sell them locally.

You need an acoustic backing. Felt or wool from Joann's can do the trick.

People love to try to bring others down or talk about their work but good job. I wouldn’t compare them to the panels just 2 different options. The panels are faster cleaner with no nail hole or patching or sanding not to mention the wall needs to be painted first if you go that route. Different strokes, but that’s a clean job

I'm gonna do this and have been watching YouTube for ideas. You are the first person I saw add the horizontal wood strips. Great idea! Most of these DIYers just nail it to the dry wall with no adhesive, which I didn't like. The horizontal strips ensure you are hitting studs and have something sturdy to attach to. How many did you use, and what thickness? 1/4"?

It’s either gonna be $2k buying slats premade or $2k in labor and time and tools - it’s same price either way.

I will do this next time (if wife lets me buy a table saw). My premade are thin vennered mdf, they wont take any damage. Proper wood can be sanded/stained/repaired

Oh my goodness. Congrats to you making it, but I do not 100% have the patience to do this. I'll get the pre-made

Makes sense if you have the tools and the skills, unfortunately for most people time × money = a lazy purchase

In my country those panel(finish product) cost from 60-90$ for each(60cm). So it is better to buy finish more faster and easy then all that mess..
But anyway good job

Great except these are sold as sound insulation so you need some plywood board, sound insulating foam and cloth

Don’t buy it for a fraction of the cost that will take to buy all the stuff you need to half ass your way into the slats. Got it!

This is beautiful, but only truly save money it seems if you already have the materials.

If you have the time and skills, do this. If not by them ready made.

What about the felt for the acoustic sound properties of a typical slat wall?

Is there a reason you put the piece of wood behind it, I get it’s to secure it instead of brad nails into dry wall, but why not just glue plus brad nail straight to the wall?
