Subaru moved the new WRX to the "Subaru Global Platform". The SGP architecture gives the WRX a 28% increase in torsional rigidity,¹ the ability for the vehicle to resist twisting under heavy cornering loads. The SGP also delivers a 75% increase² in suspension mounting-point rigidity – allowing the suspension components to provide a much more direct connection between the chassis and the wheels. I honestly felt every bit of it. I took my 2021 WRX to the track and it did feel like it didn't want to go in the direction I asked. The 2022 WRX handled exceptionally well. The stock tires are from the STi S209 and they gripped HARD. By the end of the day I knew I could have gone faster if i just learned the track a bit more. Even still I made massive improvements. The car is currently on a very early Ethanol blend making about 330hp. This event was less about power and more about the driver, suspension, and tires. Im happy to report that the tires handled the track VERY well. The Dunlops on the 2021 were ok but these new ones are incredible. The suspension is good to but there is definitely plenty of body roll. A set of coilovers will fix that soon enough. Either way I am happy with my performance and I look forward to seeing what I can do.
