Spoilers:

Her emotions seemed genuine. As if even if her programing made her love him she still in her soul loved him. She was willing to even sync with the other women just to feel him, when her main objective is to satisfy him she decided to do something that she wanted not knowing if it was something he wanted. It really broke me when she was crushed because she panicked when she knew it was her last moments and decided to give solace to the one person she cared for.

I used to want this too. A partner who’s so perfect and unconditional in her love that it’s almost ethereal. I realised later on that that’s just not reality. Men, women, we are all people and we are not perfect. There will be disagreements, fights, regret, reconciliation, disappointment etc because that’s just how life is. If you accept that and love your partner together with all their flaws, then will you finally be at peace. Acceptance is key. JOI was made to be the perfect girlfriend. Now whether she is conscious and aware is a whole different topic entirely.

I put this film on in the background once. This is the scene that caught my attention. I fell asleep knowing there was something good to come back to.

I watched the film again and saw the profundity of the concept of Joi, in relation to the modern digital world, how seemingly "everything we want" is at our finger tips. It's very easy to fall into a cycle of this digital and artificial satisfaction.

I watched the film a 3rd time paying close attention and then I saw the profundity of the character of Joe. A "man" who doesn't feel real, or as if theres no purpose beyond doing what he was programmed to do. Throughout the film he is misled into thinking that he was special and that it was all about himself. But by the end he realizes that it was not about him, it was about reuniting a parent with their child.

It's so deeply touching that in this journey of trying to find out if he and Joi are real or not, he found that they WERE real but for reasons completely different than they imagined.

He discovers that the ability to have a child or to feel romance isn't what makes someone real, but the ability to feel selflessness and to sacrifice for the sake of others.

And what made him human was fighting and dying for something BIGGER than him or his desires. Sacrificing for love and for good, that's what his true purpose was in the end, and he is at peace with it.

"Dying for the right cause. It's the most human thing we can do."
