I’m a New York City- born and raised Chinese American. My mother is Hakka and while I never learned to speak Hakka since Mandarin is what was spoken at home, I was heavily influenced by my mother’s ways. I experienced her courageous, hard-working, talented, and kindness and am proud that I am half Hakka.

We are happy to see young people introducing the culture of the Hakka people. The Hakka people deserved high respect because of their hardworking and helpful character.

I learned about Hakka(客家) for the first time when we travelled to Penang, Malaysia. I was fascinated about Hakka from dining Hakka food to discover that Hakka people pronounce many Chinese characters as Koreans do. I felt there has to be some link. There aren't many studies made on this area but I think there is a huge discoveries to be made. I am too old to do that now, near 90 yrs old.

I heard the Hakka capital was Meizhou in Northwest Guangdong. Thanks for sharing this amazing place. I especially love the maps and the explanation of history. YOU HAVE A LOYAL NEW FOLLOWER! :) I dream of going to historic places of China someday but I think it is too complicated, as of now for an American to go there.

I am living in Borneo Malaysia right now, Sabah, and many Hakka migrated here in the past. They created some amazing food like Sabah Chili Pan Mee which is one of my favorite dishes ON EARTH! Keijia people are so nice and so cool!
