For Mac users, .git file is usually at 'users/<your user>/bin' path. I just deleted the whole folder and it works. Just make sure you want to delete all in the folder.

thank you, very helpful. So I HAVE MAC, and for Mac users, you will go to git repository location in finder, press command shift "." to reveal .git. then copy it and paste it into new place of repository and delete .git in the original place, all done.

thank you it helped a lot I solved the problem but one think I dont understand we deleted .git folder isnt it comes with when we upload git to our computer ?
so whenever we want to do project we can just create new folder and add vs code and initilaze ?
