In the deserts of Jordan, a city lies hidden for centuries in a valley of rose-red stone...

In this episode, we look at one of the most peculiar stories of civilizational survival to come down to us from the ancient world, the story of the Nabataeans. Find out how these once humble traders rose to become masters of the desert sands, and to defy empires. And discover what happened to finally bring down the empire of Nabataea.

As someone who hasn't been lucky enough to travel much or experience different cultures, these podcasts are a small glimpse into the beauty and rich histories of our world that I am very grateful for. Thank you and your team for such high quality educational and yet emotional videos.

Needed this so badly. Was stuck in a mental spiral of self hate and suicidal thoughts. This is what i needed to distract myself long enough for the mood to pass.

I was lucky enough to visit Petra in 2015. It is a breathtaking place and I was fascinated by the history of the people who carved the buildings out of stone. Another exceptional podcast!

Petra is truly an amazing place. Had the opportunity to do some archaeological work there in 2014 and I will never forget the first time I saw Al-Khazneh.

Beautiful, beautiful storytelling - I cried a little for Petra and its people, caretakers of a rich desert culture long gone. Thank you.

May I suggest the Mitanni and Hittites for future consideration.
Love your work! The fact that you teach how the people and the land shape each other has this geographer's approval.

I love this series. This is probably one of the best channels on YouTube for ancient civilisation history. I especially love the style of storytelling, the sounds, music, and the "voices/quotes" of historical people makes you feel as if you’re right there with them in that time period.

Oh my goodness!!!! I really needed this. I keep relistening to the Sumerians and the Aztecs and wanting for more. I’m beyond happy. Normally I like to wait for a season to be over before I watch a show. But I fell on to this podcast and I’m so in love.

I got my interest into ancient civilizations from my world history class in the 8th grade. the story of the Indus River valley Civilization really stuck with me. it made me fascinated with how ancient civilizations around the world end in such a similar pattern. whether that be war, lack of resources, too large of a population, or climate change and other environmental issues. I started to do my own research, and that's when I came across this channel. next year, I'm going into 9th grade. and as someone who still wants to learn more, I really appreciate everything that this channel does. the audio quality is on point. I love to listen as I go to sleep and picture in my head how these civilizations got by until they're subsequent end. I'm planning on going to college when I graduate, and studying ancient civilizations. I love linguistics, and would like to be a linguistic anthropologist. so, thank you for making such great content. it really makes my day whenever you upload.
