I had my first one yesterday and it scared the poo out of me! I’ve had complex and hemiplegic migraines but never heard of this. I had the zig zags with prisms. It went away in 15 minutes and I was fine after. This video was helpful.

My little girl, 6 years old, had an opthalmic migraine today. Scared me pretty good, thankfully we were able to get her seen by her new optometrist and they diagnosed it rather quickly.

Stress!!!!
Had sudden onset crystal prism, dazzling with brilliant colors, in the shape of a backward letter C. It was beautiful, truly, but concerning (until I found out what it was). I sat down, prayed, and it grew into a wider diameter until finally out of the perceived field of vision. Was quite something.

Thank you! I've wondered if this had a name. I've had this several times over the last few years but was never worried because it always went away after 10-20 minutes. But it happened to me twice this morning so i decided to research it. Thanks for the info! I'll start keeping track of my intake. I did have three glasses of wine yesterday so maybe that did it!

For me, it happens when I haven't been drinking enough water. But it's always followed by a bad headache. Its happened 3 times and its always miserable. I will notice I'm missing letters or numbers in a word I'm reading. For example today I was reading a menu and the price was 13.99 all I saw was 3.99 and I was confused u ntil I shifted my eyes just a little and saw the 1. I immediately started chugging water because I realized it had been close to 14 hours since I had a drink of water 🤦‍♀️. Then I noticed a colidascope in my peripheral vision. It went away after about 15 minutes then my headache started.

My opthalmic migrains were odd. It happened twice. Each time it was in the middle of exercise. 1st time I was going through a fitness and gym setup exercises at the start of my new gym membership. After a 15minute warmup on a stationary bike and Half way through the various weight machines, i noticed an anular ring of sprklies in both eyes. I sat down at the leg press and then my eysight in both eyes greyed out completely, starting from the outside moving to the center, ultimately I went completely blind. I did not panic, the gym people did, and I told them I was just going to sit and see what happened. My sight came back after about 20 minutes. The second time, I was in the middle of a 30 mile bike ride. I saw the anular sparkles and I knew what might be coming. I stopped my ride and sat in the shade. Sure enough, within about 3 minutes I was blind again. Again, this lasted for about 20 minutes and made my co-rider panic. I just told her to keep going and that my sight would come back in 15 or 20 minutes. I cut my ride short and peddaled back home.
The funny thing about the grey-outs, my vision went to full grey but early on into the blindness, high contrast edges of what ever I looked at looked like a photoshop effect called Emboss; then it went to full grey out blind.

This was 17 years ago and has not happened since.

Be careful if you suddenly get grey clouds appearing in your vision which block out a certain area of sight. This happened to me, and it was an RVO or Retinal Venous Occlusion. Or a bleed in the eye. I had to go for eye injections of a steroid for approx 2 years. It never did clear up completely. Our eyes are so precious and we take them for granted.

My mother had these later in life. She actually couldn't see for several minutes. Now I am getting them, sometimes several in a few weeks, sometimes not for several months. I really think it must be a genetic tendency .

Had these visual issues off and on since age of 12. Was diagnosed with a PFO two years ago. Since having it closed my migraines have not returned.

Have you ever come across a visual aura (in both eyes) that is triggered by exercise, in my case running, that disappears when the activity stops? It gets worse during run after about 12 minutes then just goes away when I stop. It is typically accompanied by a bit of weakness and nausea. Have had them for 10 years and they don’t seem to be linked with anything serious. Asked many specialists and still have no explanation. Thank you!

I haven't had one for a long time, but it seemed to be triggered by bright natural light, so always in the daytime. I've been in similar situations since with no problems, so there may be something else to the way the light is. No other commonalities. They were always the same. Started with a small ring of distortion which affected both eyes. I remember checking that the 1st time, and phoned my Doc as it was happening. He ID'd it as an optical migraine, but didn't mention any varieties, and said it would be ok shortly, which it was. At it's peak it obliterated the left half of my vision (like pixelation), so I suspect it's right brain caused. I could see light equally in each half but the left half detail was too mushed to work with. It was also partly in my centre of vision, but if I flicked my vision to the left, I could get a brief increase of detail into the mush. It happen one time when I was out and about but I managed to find a seat to wait it out. Knowing how mine proceeds, that's my solution, and I get some time before it maxes to find somewhere if I'm away from home.

That's called a migraine visual aura. I've had a a small fragment of a migraine aura that has not resolved, it's over 7 weeks now.

Since two years ago I have had very occasional kaleidoscopic type ocular migraine in my left eye. No headaches associated. They would typically last about 20 minutes. Today, I experienced an event in my right eye which lasted about 6 minutes. I'm already scheduled to see a specialist in September. Do you have any ideas based on my description of my experiences? Thanks.
