This is what the band said about the voice mail at the end of the song.

"The voice mail, in the breakdown is from one of our friend’s dads to our friend about some dumb shit about a girl. He saved it and we added it later on to our song. Months later, the girl’s mom cornered me in the grocery store and asked me if we could take that voice mail out of the song. But we’re punk rock so we left it."

I love how this video starts without any context as to why he's wearing a wig

The Front Bottoms make me feel like I don't have to, because the feelings are already embedded in their songs.

My favorite part of this song is "There's no doubt in my mind that if you could then you would try
To crack my ribcage open and pull my heart right through".

its so cool that everyone that likes this band LOVES this band, with like every cell in their body and with the most enthusiasm possible. its not like that for a lot of bands anymore

all their lyrics are so depressing but all their music videos are so wholesome

My friend and I went into some pretty deep analysis as to the lyrics of this song one night. The lived in symbolism of the swimming pool was always an interesting perspective of the world. Elements of isolation, drowning, and awakening parallel the ways in which water has been used in literature for decades. Yet, the relevance of the metaphors really drive the soul of this song throughout. Allusions to irate telephone messages, secrets in an ominous house, and "a creature of a culture I create" all openly describe the middle class anxiety of having limited agency in moving oneself past barriers both emotional and mental. The Front Bottoms do an excellent job of transplanting the most complex feelings of sorrow into revivalist punk/emo.

My favorite part in this song is the last bit with the piano. It just sounds like complete desperation in a situation

"I am permanently preoccupied with your past"

I don’t understand how no one is talking about how well the video is synced with the music

The lyrics remind me of The Great Gatsby: being at the bottom of a swimming pool, being obsessed with someone's past, the imagery of a dance floor with a chandelier…

so when i first listened to this band about six months ago (i was already hesitant bc I hated the name) I just didn't feel it at all and clicked off within ten seconds. but then, a few days ago when I was feeling sad I impulsively clicked on this video and found myself loving every second of it...proceeding to cry my eyes out then listen to ten more of their songs. it's weird- I don't know what changed my mind but I just thank that I love them now<3

I honestly love all of their music videos, not too hip or pretentious or trying too hard, they're just fun

I love all the new fans to this amazing band, but to be honest, they really have there own sound. I personally think they are completely original

If Brian wasn't in a band he would 100% have a prank channel here on youtube.

And I know
I know
I KNOW
You're in love with me
...And I've been ignoring you.

There's comfort in the bottom of a swimming pool
I'm holding my breath for you
There's no doubt in my mind that if you could, then you would try
To crack my rib-cage open and pull my heart right through

There's comfort in the bottom of a swimming pool
I'm holding my breath for you
There's no doubt in my mind that if you could, then you would try
To crack my rib-cage open and pull my heart right through

But I'm a creature of a culture that I create
I'm the last one on the dance floor as the chandelier gives way

And I am permanently preoccupied with your past
I've been around long enough now
To know that the good things never last
They never last

There's comfort in the silence of a living room, the TV is on for you
Hide in your basement while your house burns down
Your teeth are loose inside of your gums
They will eventually fall out

Follow an orange extension cord
Under a carpet, to a closet door
Feeding the black light that will someday make me
Very, very, very, very, very rich

But I'm a creature of a culture that I create
And I'm the last one on the dance floor as the chandelier gives way

And I am permanently preoccupied with your past
I've been around long enough now
To know that the good things never last
They never last

[Verse 3]
How low is your self esteem?
And how low could it possibly be?
I know, I know you're in love with me
And I've been ignoring you

I will stop cutting my pants into shorts
I will address the issues I cannot ignore
And I will do the things I think you might like
And I will be alone probably the rest of my life

There's comfort in the bottom of a swimming pool
